As singer, songwriter and guitarist, she has been the only constant member of the band since they formed in 1978. The Pretenders were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2005. With forewords by musician and artist Brian Eno and the RA’s Artistic Director Tim Marlow, Adding The Blue is an illustrated volume of Hynde’s paintings, from still-life studies to vibrant abstract compositions that are, in Eno’s words, “full of life, love and discovery”. In this conversation with Tim Marlow, Hynde discusses her rock’n’roll career and her new dedication to painting.
